Salcon Supports Local Health System through Blood Donation Campaign

SUBANG JAYA, 1 JULY 2022 – In conjunction with World Blood Donor Day 2022 with the theme “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives.”, Salcon has once again carried out its shared responsibility to support the local health system by organising its annual blood donation campaign.

The two-day blood donation drive, held at Summit USJ Mall from 1st to 2nd July, is the 13th year of Salcon’s collaboration with Pusat Darah Negara, PDN (or the Malaysia National Blood Centre) to propel blood donation amongst its employees and Subang Jaya community. Besides this, Hospital Assunta joined the campaign to provide health screening to the public. This includes blood pressure, Body Mass Index (BMI), blood glucose and cholesterol test.

Dr Sabeha Sahabudin from Malaysia National Blood Centre said, “We hope that more companies in the private sector work with us to drive blood donation campaigns, like Salcon. Safe blood and their transfusion are a critical aspect of care and public health. They are crucial in treating people suffering from a range of diseases and as a result of accidents, natural disasters and armed conflict.”

“The need for blood is universal, but access to it is limited. The long term collaboration with PDN provides a platform for our eligible employees and public blood donors to perform this noble cause safely during the endemic. This initiative is also well-aligned with our support for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health & Well-being.” say Ms Chern Meng Gaik, General Manager – Corporate of Salcon Berhad.

The Blood Donation Drive has successfully brought in 134 pints of blood from the volunteers. This reflects up to 402 lives will be saved.

Being committed in prioritising safety & health at the workplace, the Salcon Annual Blood Donation Drive is part of the activities organised by the company in conjunction with the two-week Safety and Health Campaign 2022 with the theme “Sustaining Positively in the Endemic”.

Numerous employee engagements have been carried out during the Campaign to support the employees to keep safe, positive and healthy in the endemic. These include fitness assessment and one-to-one consultation by Chi Fitness, healthy food preparation by Ministry of Health’s unit, safety awareness at our Telibong Water Treatment Plant project site and safety quiz.
