Shah Alam, 7 January 2017 - As part of the company’s Corporate Responsible(CR) Programme, 20 volunteers from Salcon Berhad spread festive cheer and spent quality time with over 30 senior citizens from Rumah Bakti Ci Hang Chempaka in Shah Alam to usher in the Chinese New Year of the Rooster.

The residents of homes were entertained by Salcon volunteers with some exercise and dance. They were also taught to fold origami fishes by using recycled ang pao packets. At the same time, the volunteers helped to decorate the home by hanging over 1,000 pieces of origami fishes, which were folded by Salcon staff earlier over a period of two weeks.

“Salcon’s staff demonstrated how a caring company can play out their role for the poor and needy when they come to Rumah Bakti Ci Hang today,” says Mr. Desmond Yeow, the President of Ci Hang Chempaka Welfare Association Selangor. “They were strangers when both parties first met, but they parted with a warm friendship and a cherished moment, we hope to see them more often here.”

The event was then filled with fun and smiles during the photo taking session with the home residents, where they took photos at the photo booth and get the print out as a keepsake of the event.

The festive atmosphere continued with a traditional yee sang tossing ceremony to usher in good health, good luck and prosperity, whilst shouting all the auspicious wishes.

After the activities, residents of the home were given ang pao and goodies bags, whilst donations and groceries were handed over to Madam Tan Lee Soot, the representative of the old folks of the home. The donations and in-kind were collected from the staff, and the company matched the final value dollar for dollar to buy essential groceries ranging from food, drinks and toiletries based on the home’s wish list.

“It is a real joy to spend time with the elderly, we hope that our effort in giving back to the community will help to spur the spirit of caring and to appreciate the people around us especially our loved ones,” says Ms. Chern Meng Gaik, Senior Manager of Corporate Affairs, Salcon Berhad.
