Salcon Lights Up Orang Asli Community in Sepang - Reaffirm its commitment to improving access to clean energy

SEPANG, 16 October 2023 – A team of 25 volunteers from Salcon Berhad came together to brighten up the lives of 19 families at the Kampung Bukit Tunggul Orang Asli community in Sepang.

A total of eighteen (18) homes were installed with 24W portable batten lights which comes equipped with a USB port for convenient recharge of electronic gadgets. This solar powered lighting system aims to uplift the quality of lives of 83 Orang Asli residents Kampung Bukit Tunggul which includes 37 children and 56 adults.

“With most of the villagers working as laborers in Bangi, Kajang, Dengkil and Putrajaya, we hope to alleviate their energy-related challenges, including the high costs associated with unsustainable energy sources like batteries and generators. The introduction of clean solar energy also extends their productivity hours for household chores and studies during the evening.” said Ms Chern Meng Gaik, General Manager – Corporate.

During the event, the volunteers provided a comprehensive installation from system set up, system test, system inspection, and training on the mechanism to ensure that the villagers are able to handle and make full use of the solar system.

Fun activities were also held for the orang asli kids aged between 4 and 16, educating them about the benefits of solar power through engaging activities and games. The children participated with great enthusiasm and were given various gift items including school stationery sets and snacks as prizes for their participation.

Through its Salcon Cares initiative, which falls under the company’s community well-being and development focus area, Salcon is committed to “Transforming lives for the Better” and aims to improve the lives of underprivileged communities through targeted social investments, local employment and skill opportunities to deliver a significant and positive impact to the society.
