Salcon Berhad Continues its Commitment to Organise Annual Blood Donation Drive

SUBANG JAYA, 12 July 2019– Reinforcing its commitment to social causes, Salcon Berhad, a premier water and wastewater engineering company, in collaboration with National Blood Centre (PDN), held its 10th blood donation drive for its employees and public to donate blood at Menara Summit USJ today.

During the day-long blood donation drive, various health-related activities were organised such as complimentary breast cancer screening from Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), spine & joint assessment from TAGS, consultation on kidney disease from National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and health screening from SOL Integrated Wellness Centre.

The blood donation drive saw enthusiastic participation where a total of 87 pints of blood were collected from the public and employees, translating into 261 lives saved. This is because a pint can be divided into three components which are red cells, platelets and plasma which can be used individually for patients with specific conditions.

According to the General Manager of Salcon Berhad, Ms. Chern Meng Gaik, “The campaign is aimed at generating awareness of the need of regular blood donations and promoting a healthy lifestyle by doing regular health screening. We hope the public can benefit from this campaign. Together, we can save a life. That is also one of the biggest motivation to keep us moving forward,” she added.

Dr.Farahin from National Blood Centre said that Malaysia is still facing a shortage of blood supply whereby approximately 3,000 to 3,500 units of blood is required to be distributed weekly to hospitals for regular usage ofn patients with ongoing conditions. This does not include emergency supplies needed for specific cases and unforeseen accidents.

“Hence, we encourage public to make a pledge to donate blood regularly. In the meantime, we believe that an ongoing effort is needed to educate and raise awareness on blood donation. This is not only to overcome the shortage of blood supply but also to inculcate positive values amongst the public,” she added.

The event marked the end of Salcon’s Safety and Health Campaign Month in July.
