HULU LANGAT, 24 August 2019 – Salcon Berhad, under its Salcon Cares CSR programme, has reached out to brighten the lives of the Sg Gabai Orang Asli Community by installing sustainable and clean solar lighting systems at identified households with school going children.
The Salcon Cares programme, which is organized in collaboration with Jabatan Kemajuan Orang Asli (JAKOA) and Saora Industries, saw 24 Salcon volunteers assisting to construct and assemble solar panel systems at 6 houses in the village. At present, there are 25 houses and over 100 villagers with limited access to electricity and clean water supply. This collaboration serves as a platform to provide the Sg Gabai Orang Asli community with basic necessities for a safer, green and quality life by using solar energy that produces minimal harm to the environment, aiding them in their daily chores.
The volunteers along with facilitators from Saora also provided a comprehensive installation from system set up, system test, system inspection and training on the mechanism to ensure that the villagers are able to handle, repair and maintain the solar systems.
“We are delighted to work with JAKOA and Saora in making a difference to the lives of the Orang Asli villagers. It’s a great opportunity for us to come in to install the solar powered lightings and we sincerely hope that this outreach initiative will assist the community, especially the children for a better living environment as their studying hours are now significantly extended,” said Ms. Chern Meng Gaik, General Manager- Corporate of Salcon Berhad.

During the event, Salcon volunteers also conducted an oral hygiene workshop for the community where they were provided with oral hygiene kits and given demonstrations sessions on how to brush their teeth properly and regularly.
Pegawai Pembangunan Modal Insan Daerah Hulu Langat, En Mohd Nor Bin Yaakub also commented, “I wish to sincerely thank Salcon for their efforts in bringing us one step closer to ending energy poverty and improving the livelihood of the residents of Sungai Gabai.”
