Water Treatment Technologies
Salcon recognises the added-value impact of technology to its business competitiveness and sustained growth. Salcon manifests this recognition through its commitment to technology development and investment in infrastructure, projects and competency development.
Utilising technology, efforts are directed towards operating world-class plants and stimulating growth in niche areas of technology leadership. Through technology, Salcon can make more efficient use of resources. Technology is used to better manage and operate plants / facilities and help safeguard the environment and improve safety.
Technology that Salcon provided for water solutions are DAF System, Lamella System and Membrane System.
The “Dissolved Air Flotation” or DAF system uses micro-bubbles to float up solids onto the surface. The micro bubbles are released when dissolved air at a high pressure is released at atmospheric pressure in the tank.
The clarified water under the layer of floated sludge shall then be filtered in the sand filter. The sand filter could be constructed combined with the DAF tank or as a separate process structure.
The DAF technique is the most suitable process for highly-colored raw water with low turbidity, like dam or peat water.
The DAF water treatment systems offer significant advantages including minimal land use, easy operation, fast start-up, low volume of waste and competitive structural costs.
In the Lamella Clarifier system, inclined plates at 55 o is used to assist in settling water at a much higher rate compared to conventional settling methods.
The partially submerged lamella plate design isolates the flow in each lamella plate, providing an even hydraulic load on each separate lamella cell. This unique design increases the efficiency of the clarifier, producing quality settled water with Hezer settling velocity of up to 1m/hour.
The advantages of Lamella clarifying system are:
- Compact design with smaller footprint up to 5 times smaller than conventional clarifiers.
- Fast and Simple installation
- Low maintenance requirement
- Easy operation
- best used where the water turbidity could fluctuate, such as river water
- greater density of sludge production
Another versatile technology that SALCON specializes is the Membrane System.
The degree of treatment and removal will depend on the type of membrane used, such as the microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis membrane.
All Salcon membrane filtration systems are custom engineered to meet the flow and permeate quality based on clients’ requirements.
The advantages of membrane system are:
- Scalable configurations
- Fully automatic operation
- Low labor cost
- Smaller footprint compared to conventional water treatment
- High quality treated water
The Membrane System can be applied for both potable water and wastewater treatment.
